Culture and History

The organ in the Church of Saint-Laurent in Hessenheim was built in 1760 by Jean-André Silbermann for the Church of Saint-Etienne in Rosheim and transferred to Hessenheim by Joseph Stiehr in 1860. The organ case was placed under protection on January 11, 1977; the entire organ followed on June 14, 2010.

The present-day Church of Saint-Laurent dates from 1877, as indicated by the date inscription on the portal gable. Construction of the present-day Church of Saint-Laurent in Hessenheim began in 1857 under the direction of district architect Antoine Ringeisen. The choir tower is the only surviving part of the former church. An angel stands at the top of the tower instead of a rooster, and the church clock has only one hand.

The chapel in Hessenheim is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Lourdes. It was built in 1910 and handed over to the parish on October 4, 1917.
