The National Necropolis of Saales contains the remains of 36 French soldiers who fell for France during the fighting in the Bruche Valley in the summer of 1914. It was established in 1921 and laid out in 1924.
Culture and History
The main construction phase of the Chapelle Sainte-Barbe took place in the first quarter of the 19th century. Following a restoration campaign, it was blessed on 27 March 1881. A small pilgrimage was associated with the chapel and was connected to a nearby spring and a fountain dating from 1802.
Several fountains in Saales have two basins that were formerly used for washing and rinsing clothes.

Nature and Trails
Voyemont is one of the peaks overlooking the village of Saales. It reaches an elevation of 793 m and consists of highly porous sandstone, which has enabled the formation of numerous springs.
“Les crêtes de Saales” is a 10 km-long walking route over peaks and through the forest.

The mountain market in Saales brings together 30 mountain producers. At the mountain market, visitors can discover and enjoy regional products from farmers and craftspeople in the mountain region, made possible by their expertise. In July and August, there is a snack stand and small dishes at every mountain market.
