Korsør: Nor, Coast and Routes along the Great Belt

Korsør combines shallow coastal landscapes, forest paths and maritime experiences with special opportunities for active exploration. At its heart lies Korsør Nor: Covering around 10 square kilometres, it is Denmark’s largest nor, a shallow bay that stretches inland behind Korsør. Hiking between the nor, forest and coastal cliffs

The 16-kilometre Norstien trail runs along Korsør Nor and gives your day’s planning a clear natural focus. The large, shallow shore areas with beach meadows and reed beds provide important resting places for migratory birds. For families and nature enthusiasts, this creates a travel experience in which not only the route but also the changing landscape by the water takes centre stage.

Immediately south of the centre lies Korsør Lystskov, an old beech forest covering 130 hectares. Several paths lead to coastal cliffs overlooking the Great Belt; there are also marked trails that are easy to follow. This allows you to combine longer hikes with manageable walks without having to commit to just one type of landscape. The forest is therefore a suitable point of reference if you would like to take nature experiences into account when choosing your accommodation, as well as proximity to the town centre.

Beach, bridge and maritime excursions

Ceresstranden is a family-friendly sandy beach with Blue Flag status and is just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. For a holiday with different daily rhythms, the beach can provide its own focus: While some travellers prefer a break by the water, another day can be spent on the paths in Lystskov or along the Norstien.

Halsskov Færgehavn is also part of Korsør’s maritime side. The former ferry port has been transformed into a water sports centre with a diving tower, bathing beach and other maritime activities. At Færgehavnens Strand, Familientauchen is suitable for both snorkelling and scuba diving. Halsskov Oddes Revspidsen also offers a particularly good view of the Great Belt Bridge; from there, you can get very close to the bridge and take walks in the surrounding area.

From Korsør, sea-kayaking tours are possible along the coast, in the harbour and on Korsør Nor. A tour can lead through the harbour, beneath the characteristic bascule bridge and onwards into Korsør Nor. Those wishing to combine history and nature in an excursion can include Sprogø in their plans. This includes the bus journey to the island and a guided tour of Gammel Sprogø.

Getting there and planning the right trip

Korsør Station is the town’s only railway station and serves train services to and from Korsør. There are parking facilities for cars and bicycles; access is via stairs or a lift. The station is particularly relevant for cyclists travelling along National Cycle Route N8 – Østersøruten: The route runs through Korsør along the coast of the Great Belt, and the Great Belt cannot be crossed by bicycle. Cyclists therefore take the train from Korsør Station.
