Tved between the dune plantation, dunes and nature experiences

Tved combines nature experiences, traces of history and various opportunities for an active holiday. The Tved Dune Plantation and the surrounding areas are protected and form part of a natural area that also includes the Hanstholm Wildlife Reserve and the dune plantations to the south. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Tved can therefore easily plan each day of their holiday around hiking, nature observation or culture.

Hiking through the Tved Dune Plantation

There are three marked hiking routes in the Tved Dune Plantation. One special option is the Savbjerg Route: It leads through the northernmost part of the plantation and runs along the edge of the Hanstholm Wildlife Reserve. The route can be extended by approximately 1 km to a viewpoint in the northern part of the reserve. Take this additional distance into account when planning your day if you would like to extend the excursion with a viewpoint.

The local cycle route, Reservatruten, also passes through the Tved Dune Plantation. Depending on your travel plans, you can therefore choose between marked hiking trails and a ride along the cycle route. The landscape cannot be reduced to a single attraction: In the southern part of the plantation, two Bronze Age burial mounds can be seen at Ravnshøje, while Langsande, the largest parabolic dune in the Tved Dune Plantation, creates its own distinctive landscape feature.

Viewing tower and red deer in the natural area

There is a viewing tower in the northern part of the Tved Dune Plantation. From there, you can look out for red deer in the Hanstholm Wildlife Reserve; the reserve is home to 500 red deer. This makes the tower an exciting destination for anyone who would like to combine their stay with nature observation. A sighting cannot be guaranteed, but the opportunity to look for the animals in this natural area gives the excursion a special focus.

There is also a specific accessibility aid for a trip near Sårup: The path from the car park at Sårup to the viewpoint there is wheelchair accessible. This means that this part of your stay can be planned independently of the other hiking routes. Peter Odgaards Plads also has a simple overnight site with a shelter, fire pit, toilet and water. This site is a separate, nature-oriented overnight option within the local range of amenities.

Tved Church and historical impressions

Tved Church was built in the 12th century and complements the nature experiences with a visit of cultural and historical interest. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, except on public holidays and during ceremonies. From Thisted, Tved Church can be reached by bus no. 90. If you are planning a trip with different focuses, you can therefore combine a visit to the church with a day in nature at the dune plantation without placing both interests within the same activity.
