Water experiences on Krik Vig

In suitable wind conditions, Krik Vig is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. You can also go canoeing and kayaking on the Limfjord at Krik Vig. For a day on the water, Krik Vig has a ramp where boats can be launched. Toilets are available at Kulhuset at Krik Strandvej 68. These specific access points help you plan your equipment and daily schedule appropriately without limiting your trip to just one type of water sport.

Krik can also be combined with longer paddling excursions. The paddling tour on the Hvidbjerg Vesten Å is 40 km long and runs from Sjørring to Krik. Along the route, there is an opportunity to continue on the main road to Krik and then return to Agger. Alternatively, a marked path leads back to Agger around Flade Sø.

Krik Vig, east of Agger Tange, is the only marine area of Thy National Park. The shallow areas of the inlet are used by resting waterbirds. The protection of Agger Tange also includes adjacent parts of Krik Vig as a resting, feeding and breeding area for waterbirds. Krik Vig Vest comprises the part of Krik Vig that lies within Thy National Park and corresponds to the eastern part of the Agger Tange wildlife reserve.

The special shape of the inlet can be seen in its geography: Apart from a narrow natural navigation channel along the coast of Thy, Krik Vig consists of a shallow sandbank. It was formed by storm breaches, during which sand was transported from the North Sea into Nissum Bredning, particularly since the storm surge of 1825. When paddling or surfing on the Limfjord at Krik Vig and Agger Tange, you should keep a safe distance from the coast and the bird island. If you are planning to swim at Krik beach, also note that the hygienic quality of the bathing water there is not monitored.

History of an old loading site

Krik was one of the four old loading sites in South Thy. In the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, the so-called Krejler, the Limfjord’s cargo-barge operators, used Krik as a loading site. They loaded grain there for merchants from Thisted and Aalborg and unloaded timber and iron goods. Later, a railway siding led to the loading site at the end of Krik Vig. Cement and stones were unloaded there from cargo ships and transported to Agger.

This history adds a human perspective to the natural area: The water was not only about landscapes and leisure, but also about the transport of goods and connections to places in South Thy.
