Discover Hørsholm: Nature, Culture and Trails

Hørsholm combines impressive nature with cultural history and a variety of trails. Among baroque garden art, ancient forests, a museum and marked routes, you can shape your stay in very different ways: as a peaceful journey of discovery, an active time outdoors or a mixture of both. Nature and history around Hørsholm

Folehave is a particularly distinctive landscape. The deciduous forest is among the lushest forests in North Zealand; small lakes and forest meadows provide numerous habitats for animals and plants. At the same time, Folehave reaches far back into the past with 59 Bronze Age burial mounds. Those who want to experience nature together with history during their stay will find both in the same landscape.

The Arboretum in Hørsholm also places a clear focus on plants and landscape. The collection comprises more than 2,000 species of trees and shrubs and is considered Denmark’s largest collection of its kind. This offers a different way to experience nature than in the forest: the focus is not on the distance covered, but on the diversity of the woody plants.

Baroque garden, church and museum

Hørsholm Slotshave is a garden complex from the Baroque period. It preserves the layout of its former baroque garden as well as linden trees that are more than 250 years old. The historic design and the old trees give the visit a clear cultural setting. The signposted Blixen Route also runs through the garden.

Hørsholm’s cultural history also includes Hørsholm Church, which was inaugurated on 21 September 1823. The Hørsholm Local History Museum presents the history of Hirschholm Castle, freedom of the press and a royal affair through exhibitions and creative activities for children. The museum building itself dates from the 18th century and was originally an estate manager’s house belonging to the Hirschholm Crown Estate. For families, this combination of historical topics and creative activities provides an accessible way to engage with the past.

In the centre of Hørsholm is Kulturhus Trommen, with a library, cinema and theatre and concert halls. Bus routes 150S and 500S stop at Hørsholm Midtpunkt, about a two-minute walk from Kulturhus Trommen. Trails for different day plans

The Blixen Route is 16 kilometres long and runs through Hørsholm Slotshave. Signs with QR codes make it possible to activate 17 audio stories on a mobile phone. This allows a longer hike to be combined with storytelling stops, without experiencing the route solely through the landscape.

Another option is provided by the Kløverstierne in Hørsholm. The four marked hiking, running and cycling routes start at the Kløverpæl in PH Park and are 2.5, 5.3, 7.6 or 21 kilometres long. The different route lengths make it easier to choose between a short circuit and an extended active day, without assuming a specific walking time. For additional sporting variety, Hørsholm Golf has a 27-hole course.
