Culture

An important cultural centre is the 14|15 Baťa Institute. It was created by converting two former Baťa factory buildings into a cultural centre. The institute houses the Museum of South East Moravia in Zlin, the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts and the František Bartoš Regional Library. Visitors can see three permanent exhibitions there: “Princip Baťa: Dnes fantazie, zítra skutečnost”, “+ - Zlín” and “František Bartoš: Pedagog, jazykovědec, etnograf”.

The Tomáš Baťa Memorial also represents the city’s architectural character. The functionalist building is made of concrete, glass and steel. Overall, Zlín is a characteristic example of functionalist urban planning and interwar architecture.

Events

Every year during the summer season, the 14|15 Baťa Institute organises a guided bus tour of Zlín’s Baťa architecture for the general public. The ZLÍN FILM FESTIVAL screens almost 300 films from almost 50 countries every year and is the oldest festival of its kind in the world. In this way, the city’s cultural offerings bring together architectural history and a festival with international reach.

Landscape

The Dřevnice river valley, in which Zlín is spread out, is lush and green. A specific way to access this landscape is the walk through the Přílucká landscape. After about 470 metres, it reaches Přílucký rybník, one of the most picturesque natural landscapes in the surroundings of Zlín, and leads to a protected service tree.

The Mladcovská Skalka–Přední vrch route can be walked in about one and a half hours.
