Holiday apartment in Ublo: hiking trails, Baťa Railway and local history

Ublo lies in the hills of the Vizovická vrchovina. A hiking route along Baťa’s unfinished railway reaches the village; the UBlanka Tunnel is planned as its first stop there. In the surrounding area, forests, meadows and pastures meet traces of local history and paths through the hilly landscape.

Landscape

Ublo’s location in the Vizovická vrchovina defines its landscape setting. The surrounding area includes forests, meadows and pastures. A yellow-marked hiking trail also passes through Ublo’s cadastral area. Nature and the network of paths therefore appear closely connected with the village, without the landscape being limited to a single viewpoint or an individual route.

History

The first written record of the settlement of Ublo dates from 1450 and documents the local bailiff’s estate. The history of the Baťa Railway is also connected with the village: construction work on the Vizovice–Ublo section began in July 1934. The UBlanka Tunnel in Ublo is a concrete remnant of the railway left unfinished by Baťa. On the Baťa railway route, the path in Ublo runs above the Ublanka Tunnel and then continues along a grass-covered railway embankment.

Further historical traces can be found in the villagescape. A monument to those who fell in the First World War stands in the centre of Ublo. Preserved wooden houses in Ublo are part of the regional folk architecture. The Ubelské divadlo continues the local tradition of amateur theatre. A bronze socketed axe found in the Valušné field in Ublo or in the surrounding area is kept in the museum in Olomouc. The bell in Ublo’s bell tower bears the year 1784. A new bell tower with a new bell has once again become part of Ublo’s villagescape.

Trails

The hiking trail from Vizovice via Ublo is approximately 14 km long. At Suchý vrch, it has a steeper climb; afterwards, it runs mainly through the forest along the contour lines. A hiking trail leads from Vizovice via Ublo and runs below Suchý vrch parallel to the yellow hiking-trail markings. The different sections of the route thus mention both the climb and the subsequent course through the forest and below the mountain.

The route from Vartovna follows green- and yellow-marked hiking trails towards Ublo and the U Hruška viewpoint. On the return leg of the “Kapka mezi dvěma zámky” route, you encounter the trackbed of the unfinished railway again in Ublo and climb up to Vartovna via Jasenná. The trails connect several specific landmarks: Vartovna, Ublo, Jasenná, Suchý vrch and U Hruška.
