Holiday Apartment in Machová: Bell Tower, Traditions and Country Lanes
Machová showcases local history, traditional customs, country lanes for walks and bike rides, as well as opportunities for sports and play.
Culture
The bell tower of Machová stands in the centre of the village. Its history spans a change in the recent past as well as the historical roots of the place: in 1994, the bell tower was demolished and rebuilt as a replica of the original structure.
Local history is also reflected along the connecting roads. At the cadastral boundary between Machová and Mysločovice, a statue of the Virgin Mary stands on the road connecting the two municipalities. This statue was acquired in 1888. The Na Kopci cross dates from 1924. The first written mention of Machová dates from 1397; at that time, its name was Machova lhota.
The village’s vibrant character also includes customs associated with particular times of the year. Machovské klapotání is a continuing local Easter tradition. During Chození s Májkem, girls went from house to house singing the traditional song “Stála panenka Maria jako růžička červená”. In February, a Shrovetide procession led by a bear took place in Machová. The so-called Eastern Haná dialect is also spoken in Machová.
Nature
The country lanes of Machová are intended for walks and bike rides. Wooden signs bearing the names of the respective tree species stand along the lanes. A special stop is the Bořínek rest area, where two loungers offer a view of Machová and the surrounding landscape.
Leisure
For sports activities, the Machová sports complex offers several types of courts. There are courts for tennis, nohejbal and volleyball; the sports complex also includes a skate park. One of the routes along Machová’s country lanes features the Piškvorky nature game, adding another playful element to the paths.
Local Life
The annual calendar in Machová includes a sausage tasting every March and an exhibition of home-grown fruit and vegetables in autumn.
