Strážek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Strážek combines an unusual Western town with Baroque sacred art and routes to the Mitrov castle ruins. Beaver City was founded in Strážek in 1995 as an open-air Western town museum with thematic links to the US state of Wyoming. It recreates life in American settlement towns from the period between 1800 and 1890.

Culture

The Beaver City complex includes Fort Beaver, the Western town’s trappers’ trading post area. With a few exceptions, contemporary clothing is generally required at events in Beaver City.

The Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Strážek is a Renaissance building dating from 1616 with Late Gothic elements. Since 1958, the church and the Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk have jointly been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The statue can be seen in Strážek and is regarded as a high-quality Baroque sculpture from the 18th century; the church is also a parish church with regular services.

Also in Strážek, you can see the devotional site of St. Florian, a Late Baroque sculptural work from the 18th century.

Routes and Landscape

The 550 m-high Strážnice mountain is used for tourist walks near Strážek. The excursion “Údolím Bobrůvky panstvím Mitrovských” begins in Strážek and follows a blue-marked hiking trail to the Mitrov castle ruins; it is considered a half-day tour.

The Mitrov castle ruins in the vicinity of Strážek are freely accessible. In the same nearby area, they lie on a wooded hill around which the Bobrůvka flows on three sides.

The route “Po stopách hrdelního práva ve Strážku” passes the remains of a former execution site. The hike “Na hrad Mitrov” begins in Strážek at a bus stop near Jednota and a restaurant.
