Culture and history

In the center of Stonařov stands the complex of St. Wenceslas Church. The church is a plastered, single-nave solid building with a rectangular floor plan and dates from the 13th century.

On a hill northeast of Stonařov stands the chapel on Kalvárie with the Stations of the Cross. The access path is on the southeast side of the site; the older access path is complemented by stone Stations of the Cross. The Stonařov Meteorite Museum is a small museum dedicated to the meteorite fall over Stonařov and its surroundings on May 22, 1808.

The Kalvárie Chapel is a Baroque niche chapel in the southwestern part of the former cemetery in Stonařov and contains a depiction of the Crucifixion. The charnel house also stands near the church in Stonařov; it is a late Romanesque ossuary chapel resembling a rotunda and dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Its circular nave was built from local stone, with a newer pentagonal presbytery added.

The stone wayside shrine Boží muka stands next to house no. 3 in Stonařov and was erected in 1647 at the expense of Mathias Eysenbart. It has a four-sided shrine with a deep, pointed-arch-vaulted niche.

Landscape and surroundings

The mountains Rozhledna, Kalvárie, Březí, and Sokolíčko are located in the immediate vicinity of Stonařov. Roštejn Castle [Doupě] is located in the surrounding area. Further afield in the region are the Janštejn ruins and the churches of U Svatého Křiže and U Svaté Magdalena.

Educational trail and paths

The Naučná stezka Údolím Jihlávky na Aleje educational trail begins in the center of Stonařov and ends there again as a circular route. It is 10 km long and classified as easy. The trail includes nine stations with information boards in Czech and German.

Near Stonařovské Aleje, the return section runs along field and forest paths; 20 percent of the route is paved.
