Nature

The most important conservation objective of the protected area along the Jankovský Stream is a unique population of the endangered freshwater pearl mussel.

The protected area along the Jankovský Stream includes the stream and the valley floor over a length of approximately 13 kilometres. The Vilímek pond offers a more peaceful landscape: there is no significant recreational development there, and waterfowl and other animals can be observed.

The Southern Circular Route around Humpolec leads through Staré Bříště, continuing past the Vlčí hory landscape and along the shore of the Vlčehorský pond towards Lipovky.

Culture

The wayside shrine near house number 29 in Staré Bříště is a state-protected immovable cultural monument. It consists of a stone octagonal pillar with a wider, carved chapel dating from approximately the 17th century. The monument is freely accessible.

A chapel built in 1865, with a small bell tower and a rectangular nave, stands in the village square of Staré Bříště.

Local traditions

Since 2004, a meeting with the singing of Christmas carols and a ceremonial address has been held at night in the local chapel on Christmas Eve. This gave rise to a tradition.

Another tradition is four Advent meetings in the chapel, held each on the eve of the individual Advent Sundays.

The Starobříšťská pilgrimage was established on the occasion of the feast of Saint John of Nepomuk; the local chapel is dedicated to him. The Starobříšťská pilgrimage included a solemn church service as well as games for children and adults. On this occasion, treats prepared by local women and girls are offered.
