Culture and History

In the medieval and early modern town centre of Rouchovany, there is an archaeological site with layers of finds dating from the 12th to the 15th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary preserves a Romanesque core; at the end of the 13th century, a Gothic chancel was added to its eastern side. Its tower was built to a height of 15 metres in 1585 and completed in 1610 in the style of the so-called Romanesque Renaissance, with paired windows, reaching its present height of 28.40 metres. Three bells hang in the tower: Saint Wenceslas, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph.

The traditional pilgrimage in Rouchovany includes a mass in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The programme also includes the raising of the maypole and a dance event in the market square. The “Pánova” spring is a place associated with a local legend from Rouchovany. In the immediate vicinity of Rouchovany lies the medieval archaeological site of Mstěnice, with the remains of a fortified farmstead, a smithy, stables and sheds.

Nature

The Výrova skála nature reserve is located in the Šemíkovice district of the municipality of Rouchovany. It protects thermophilous oak forests, steppe grasslands and rare plant and animal species, including eagle owls and middle spotted woodpeckers.

Trails and Water

Cycle route 401 runs through the Rouchovany area, connecting Třebíč, Hrotovice, Dukovany and Moravský Krumlov, and forms part of the Jihlava–Český Těšín connection. A green-marked hiking trail crosses the northern part of the municipality of Rouchovany. A yellow-marked hiking trail follows the Rokytná along the southern boundary of the municipality of Rouchovany.

Swimming in natural surroundings with lawns and a sandy beach is possible at Stejskal Pond in Rouchovany. During the season, rowing boats and pedal boats can be rented at Stejskal. At the Stejskal outdoor swimming pool, parking spaces are available directly on the premises, as is a restaurant. The “Okolo Stejskala” cycle race started on 23 May at the Stejskal outdoor swimming pool in Rouchovany.
