Kněžice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kněžice is first mentioned in writing in 1222. This mention is considered the oldest written record of a settlement in the wider Stonařovsko, Jihlavsko and Brtnicko area.

History and Sacred Architecture

In the first quarter of 2024, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Kněžice, including its movable furnishings, was declared a cultural monument. The small Late Baroque sacred building has a square ground plan and a polygonal termination to the south. Its furnishings include a life-size Baroque wooden statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, probably created around 1723 by an artist who is unknown today and regarded as a valuable example of contemporary craftsmanship.

The Church of Saint James the Greater in Kněžice probably dates from the 13th century. Its oldest Romanesque section comes from the same construction workshop as the Basilica of Saint Procopius in Třebíč.

Natural Environment

The U Trojáku Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Kněžice u Třebíče and protects an old beech stand at a site with fresh fir-beech forests. The mountains of Kalvárie, Sokolíčko, Rozhledna and Březí lie in the vicinity of Kněžice.
