Jihlávka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jihlávka lies on the southwestern foothills of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, along the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia. The Jihlava River rises in Jihlávka; its source is located about one kilometre west of the village. On the road between Jihlávka and Počátky, a signposted dirt track branches off to the north after a bend. The approximately 500-metre-long path leads to the source, which is partly hidden beneath the crowns of mature alders in a small grove and consists of a small spring pond measuring 8 × 3 metres. The turn-off is marked by a signpost and an information board for the educational trail “K pramenům Počátek a okolí”.

Geographical location

Its location on the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia connects Jihlávka with a landscape where the Jihlava River originates and whose source area lies directly west of the village.

Nature

Ptačí park Jihlávka is being established between Jihlávka, Horní Dubenky, Kaliště and Býkovec, extending from Bor Pond to Býkovecký Pond. In the floodplain of the Hamerský potok and its tributaries, it encompasses a diverse landscape of bogs, wet meadows and wetlands. Common snipe, black storks and cranes can be observed in Ptačí park Jihlávka; sturdy high-top shoes or rubber boots are required for this purpose.

At the Rašeliniště Kaliště site, 87 bird species have been recorded, including 26 specially protected species. In addition, 47 moss species have been recorded there, including 17 species on the Czech Red List. Less than two kilometres from the Rašeliniště Kaliště site lies the V Lisovech nature reserve and European Site of Importance, a typical example of bog meadows and wetlands in broad, flat spring hollows of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

Activities

The natural surroundings of Jihlávka invite visitors to go for walks and gather wild berries and mushrooms, and are suitable for cycling tours. Mount Javořice is eight kilometres from Jihlávka. As the highest peak of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, it offers suitable conditions for cross-country skiing in winter.

History and culture

The documented history of Jihlávka dates back to 1356. At that time, the village was owned by the brothers Rys and Vilém of Jihlávka and belonged to the Janštejn estate. In the vicinity of Jihlávka, a memorial at Bor Pond commemorates the clash between the Hussites and the army of Menhart of Hradec in 1423.

The Catholic bell tower of Jihlávka is a free-standing, two-storey brick building. It was built in 1830 in the middle of the village square and remodelled in the Neo-Gothic style in the 1920s. The Protestant bell tower is a free-standing brick building erected in 1911 on the eastern edge of the village square. It is an example of the late phase of Neo-Gothic architecture in the Vysočina Region.
