Batelov combines historic buildings and memorial sites with named landscape features and specific activities.
Culture
The Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul is a Baroque church built between 1755 and 1761. It was erected in place of a Gothic church mentioned in 1400. A pilgrimage to St. Peter and Paul on 29 June is associated with the church.
The Starý a Nový zámek complex is protected as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 33201/7-4679. Batelov Chateau is a two-storey Renaissance building surrounded by a park through which the Jihlava River flows. A cycle route leads via Spělov to Batelov and highlights the fact that the old and new chateaux stand next to each other in the town centre.
The Jewish quarter of Batelov lies on the north-eastern edge of the historic town centre on Třešťská Street. It originally comprised 16 houses, including a school. The synagogue, built in the Neoclassical style in 1794, stands on Židovský plácek; a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust was erected near the Jewish quarter in 1995.
The Chapel of St. Barbara, built in 1638, stands in Batelov Cemetery. The Jewish cemetery of Batelov lies on a hill west of the town, hidden in a deciduous forest near the town. It contains simple Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones; the oldest dates from 1715. With its gravestones, the cemetery commemorates the former Jewish presence there.
The “Roštejn [Doupě] castle outlook t.” castle is located in the vicinity of Batelov; the Janštejn ruins are also nearby. In the wider region are Orlík, a ruin, and Svatá Anna, a church.
Landscape
Havlův kopec is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Batelov. The mountains Rácovský lísek, Bražský kopec and Strahovice are also located around the town.
Activities
The “Na kole do Jihlavských vrchů” cycle route starts in Batelov’s square, is 31 km long and has a difficulty rating of 2.
Koně Batelov offers horse-riding excursions for all age groups in an enclosure or in nature. During the winter months, skijoring is also available.
