Údlice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Two traces in Údlice lead far back into the past: the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross preserves a Romanesque altar niche, or apse, whose construction is dated to before 1250. At the same time, a site at the location of present-day Údlice points to a time when a river flowed into the so-called Žatec Lake.

History and Culture

The first written mention of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Údlice dates from 1247. Its Romanesque altar niche, or apse, is one of the most significant sacred structures in the Ústecký kraj region. The church and the cemetery at that time were formerly fortified by a moat. A farmyard and a small park adjoin Údlice Castle.

Údlice was one of the main centers of Jewish settlement in the Chomutov region. By the end of the 15th century, there was already a Jewish house of prayer here with an associated religious school. The so-called old Jewish cemetery may date back to the 16th century; the oldest gravestones date from the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1864, a second, so-called new Jewish cemetery was established near the road to Jirkov. At the beginning of the 1960s, a memorial site was created in the new Jewish cemetery for the victims of the death march who died in Údlice in 1945.

Nature and Leisure

Between 2 and 65 million years ago, a river flowed at the site of present-day Údlice and emptied into the so-called Žatec Lake. The site is known for fossilized trunks, leaves, roots, and tree blossoms and fruits.

A seasonal outdoor swimming pool complex is located at Lázeňská 100 in Údlice.
