Kalek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kalek is considered a picturesque mountain settlement with numerous preserved historic houses, babbling streams, and picturesque surroundings consisting of meadows, forest clearings, and moorlands.
Culture and History
St. Wenceslas Church, including the cemetery grounds, is registered as a cultural monument in the central list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 18064/5-534. It was completed in 1702. The access path to the church across the cemetery grounds was made of flat-split stone.
The historical development of Kalek included the production of toys and wooden goods. As early as 1555, there was a hammer mill here for producing sheet metal, probably processing iron ore mined locally. The Czech name “Kalek” is derived from a lime kiln; the fine-grained limestone extracted there was supplied for smelting iron ores.

In the vicinity west of Kalek lies the Bučina na Kienhaidě Nature Reserve. Northeast of Kalek, the Buky a javory v Gabrielce Nature Reserve is located nearby.
