Nature and Forest Landscapes

The Hrby Nature Reserve protects natural forest communities ranging from the beech-oak to the oak-beech zone. The Žlíbky Nature Reserve protects a complex of typical hornbeam-oak forest communities.

The Čertova hora Nature Reserve has been protected since 1985 and covers 13.87 hectares. The Hrby Nature Reserve was designated in 1973 over an area of 26.77 hectares to protect natural submontane lime-beech forests.

The Žlíbky u Vráže Nature Reserve lies within the municipality of Vráž on the left bank of the Otava in a deeply incised river valley. The Čertova hora u Vráže Nature Reserve comprises a remnant of an old deciduous forest of oaks, limes and beeches, as well as a herb layer with characteristic plant species.

Marked Trails and Cycling Loop

Within the municipality of Vráž, the red-marked Sedláčkova cesta can be reached from the junction near Vráž railway station. Nová Vráž is a waypoint on the Sedláčkova stezka.

A green-marked hike on route TV 8 leads to the Žlíbky u Vráže Nature Reserve, while a blue-marked hike on the same route leads to the Čertova hora Nature Reserve. For route TV 7, train connections from Písek to Čížová and from Vráž to Písek are indicated.

A cycling loop starts and ends at Nová Vráž railway station. It runs mostly along paved forest paths or roads with very little traffic.

Culture

Within the municipality of Vráž is the Lázně Vráž spa complex, based in a Lobkowicz chateau built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1875. The chateau, together with the treatment and accommodation pavilions added later, is surrounded by an English park and forest.
