Unterhaid: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Unterhaid leads to a local landscape where church architecture, a pilgrimage site, historic railway traces and marked circular trails stand side by side. In the area around Dolní Dvořiště, these themes become visible at specific destinations and along designated routes.

Culture and Sacred Buildings

The Church of St. Giles in Dolní Dvořiště is listed as a protected cultural monument. It is a three-nave hall church with a distinct polygonally closed chancel and was originally built in the Gothic style around 1480.

Near Dolní Dvořiště, the pilgrimage church of Svatý Kámen lies on a gentle hill; the only ascent is lined with six chapels. The pilgrimage site includes a hexagonal chapel dating from 1706, built over a spring with healing water. The Baroque Church of Panna Maria Sněžná is also located in Svatý Kámen. It has a single nave and a chancel closed on three sides.

Trails and Landscape

The Stezky poznání near Dolní Dvořiště comprise three marked thematic circular trails. The red circular trail is 9 km long, runs east of Dolní Dvořiště, has an elevation difference of 47 m and leads mainly to sacred buildings. The green circular trail is 13 km long, runs west and south of Dolní Dvořiště, has an elevation difference of 96 m and presents the history of the railway. The yellow circular trail is 26 km long, has an elevation difference of 110 m and focuses mainly on the border region, which was shaped by the expulsion of the German population and the period of the Iron Curtain.

The yellow circular trail follows the former Signal Corridor Road through the Horní Malše natural monument, which was designated to protect endangered animals.

Historical Traces

The Koňská dráha educational trail begins in Dolní Dvořiště-Jenín in a forest near the Czech-Austrian border. Along the educational trail route, an information board stands by a reconstructed railway structure, more precisely beside half of a reconstructed bridge pier. In the forests near Dolní Dvořiště, the educational trail provides information at a reconstructed remnant of a railway bridge about the history of the horse-drawn railway that ran from České Budějovice to Linz.

Tower and Fortress

In the area around Dolní Dvořiště, Tichá Fortress has a 28 metre-high tower, which is considered the southernmost castle observation tower in the Czech Republic. From Dolní Dvořiště, it can be reached on foot via the red hiking trail in just under an hour, at a relatively leisurely walking pace.
