Cerhonice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Cerhonice, literary and architectural history come together. Ladislav Stroupežnický was born in Cerhonice on 6 January 1850; his play “Naši furianti” is set in his hometown of Cerhonice. The chateau complex was created by converting an older fortress and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

History

The history of the place is also reflected in the Cerhonice manor farm. Until the end of the 15th century, it was the only farm of the estate and served as the administrative centre for the area on the left bank of the Vltava. The farm underwent its greatest development after the mid-16th century; this also included the expansion of fish farming.

The historic complex includes the Chapel of Saint Lawrence. It was restored, including its altar, consecrated, and is once again used for services.

The Red Cross in the forests of Vráž and three identical chapels erected in a regular triangle around Cerhonice serve as a lasting reminder of a bloody event. Until the First World War, a penitential procession from Cerhonice to the Red Cross took place every year on the first Sunday in June. Alois Jirásek popularised the regional legend in his story “Ballada z rokoka”; the legend is sometimes mistakenly associated with Boudy.

Getting Around

Cycle Route 31 passes through Cerhonice. The Alšova stezka can also be followed as a cycling tour from Ostrovec via Cerhonice to Mirotice.
