Kovářov combines a historic village character with water- and cycling-related attractions. The Kovářov Yacht Club offers sheltered moorings for 45 boats in Kovářov. A rocky road leads directly down to the water in Kovářov; a water rescue service is located near this rocky water access point.

Activities

The Lipenská magistrála cycling route runs through Kovářov. Windsurfing on Lipno is concentrated in two areas, including Kovářov. For this wind direction, Kovářov is considered the most suitable windsurfing area on Lipno; it has the largest area on Lipno, and beginners should watch out for large waves.

History and village character

Kovářov, known as Schmiedschlag in German, was first mentioned in 1379 in the Rožmberk land register as “villa Smydslag vel Kowarzow ad Frymburk”. The remaining small houses in Kovářov were built in the second half of the 18th century as dwellings for forestry workers, who also drove rafts in summer.

Before the First World War, Kovářov’s irregular village square consisted of seven square-type stone Šumava farmhouses, with a chapel in the middle. According to historical reports, flax was grown, cultivated and processed extensively in Kovářov.

Nature and culture

The mountains of Vítkův Kámen, Lindový vrch, Bärenstein and Hirschenstein are located in the surroundings of Kovářov. The Haslach parish church, a church, is also located in the surrounding area.
