The Church of the Holy Trinity in Skapce is visible from far away and forms a distinctive landmark in the surrounding area. Its Baroque architecture with frescoes and valuable period furnishings ranks among the most significant Baroque buildings in the Tachov area.

Culture and History

Skapce is first mentioned in 1115 in the founding charter of Kladruby Monastery. Kladruby Monastery owned Skapce until the monastery was dissolved in 1785.

The present Church of the Holy Trinity is the result of a Baroque renovation carried out under the Kladruby abbot Amand Streer. The interior decoration by the painter J. Kramolín was completed in 1788.

The rectory next to the church was built around 1720. Until Kladruby Monastery was dissolved, it served as the abbots’ summer residence. As a high-quality Baroque building, it forms a valuable historic ensemble together with the neighboring church.

The wayside shrine “Boží muka” in Skapce dates from 1694. It consists of a granite base and shaft, a chapel-like upper section, and a stone cross. A small chapel dedicated to Saint Lawrence has also been preserved on the outskirts of Krtín.
