Krchleby: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Krchleby is a station on the “In the Footsteps of Jirásek’s Lantern” educational trail, which passes through the village and includes the site of the Lacembok castle ruins along its route. The 13.5 km educational trail can be started in Osvračín or Staňkov and is marked in both directions.

Trails

The CT 2185 cycle route also passes through Krchleby: it leads from Staňkov via Krchleby and Zelený Háj towards Merklín and Přeštice. Thus, the village landscape features both the marked educational trail and a cycling connection that runs through several villages.

Culture and History

Hrádek Lacembok is a late medieval castle ruin and an archaeological site in the municipality of Horní Kamenice, in the cadastral area of Krchleby. The ruins include a castle cistern carved into the rock. The first written mention of Krchleby dates back to 1366.

Basket making is also part of the local history. Many locals made baskets at home in Krchleby, and the village was also known for producing spruce baskets. In Krchleby near Staňkov, split strips of coniferous woods such as pine, spruce and fir were used as warp and weaving material to make baskets. Coal was mined at a depth of 60 metres in the mines of the Staňkov mining union near Stirchlowa (Krchleby) and Buckowa (Buková).

Landscape and Surroundings

Krchleby is surrounded by the forests of Výtuňské polesí and lies in their southern part. The nearby hills include Kamenná hora (Holýšov), Klítka (Hlohovčice) and Makový vrch (Holýšov-Dolní Kamenice). Mount Běleč lies in the vicinity of Krchleby. In the wider regional surroundings of Krchleby is the church “Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral”.
