In the center of Šimanov stands the Baroque Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, which was completely renovated in 2012.

Culture and History

The local sacred monuments include Boží muka Šimanov, numbered 17. The sacred monument Křížek u Niebauerů bears the number 19 and the inscription “Praise be to Christ.” The sacred monument Křížek u kapličky sv. Jana bears the number 20 and the inscription “God bless this community.”

The first known written mention of Šimanov is an entry from 1305 concerning taxes paid by its inhabitants to Windberg Premonstratensian Monastery. Historically, the inhabitants of Šimanov were known for making baskets and hampers. They took their products to the markets of all the cities and towns in the upper Otava region.
