Annín: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Annín combines the history of glassmaking, sacred art, and Czechoslovak pre-war fortifications to create an unusually multifaceted townscape. The glassworks, chapel, church, and educational trail each represent different themes.
Culture
Sklárna Annín was founded in 1796 by Augustin Muller from Vatětice to produce crystal glass and small glass beads known as Pateříky. Visitors can see original Czech lead crystal with traditional and modern patterns, the museum, the sales room, and the glassworks. They can also choose their own decoration and blow an original glass object themselves.
At the edge of the forest above the Annín glassworks stands the neo-Gothic Schmid Chapel with the Schmid family crypt. Glass products incorporated into the chapel’s interior are valuable evidence of the history of glassmaking in Annín and elsewhere in Šumava. Schmid Chapel can be reached from the car park at the glassworks by walking uphill across a meadow or via an unmarked turnoff from the road to Mouřenec.
History
In Mouřenec above Annín stands the Church of Saint Mauritius. It is one of the oldest churches in Šumava and was built after 1220 in the late Romanesque style. Rare 14th-century wall paintings were discovered in the church in 1993 and subsequently restored. On the northern side of the Mouřenec cemetery there is also a Baroque ossuary from the 18th century.
The Annín Museum of Light Fortifications is an atypical bunker on a rock above the main road from Sušice to Kašperské Hory. It explains the reasons for constructing the Czechoslovak pre-war fortifications, the combat system of the fortifications, and their wartime and post-war fates.
The Radešovské skály educational trail, focusing on geology and natural history, leads from Annín.
