Cheznovice: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Cheznovice combines a specific geotourism connection with a varied landscape and distinctive traces of its history. Štěpánský rybník is a geotourism site and paleontological type locality with walkable tourist access. A tourist hiking trail also passes through Cheznovice.

Nature and Landscape

Trhoň Nature Park is connected with Cheznovice as a protected area. Mount Hřeben is located nearby. The mountains Beran, Hlava and Hejlák are also part of the surroundings of Cheznovice.

The extensive neighboring forests near Cheznovice are used for recreation, mushroom picking and nature excursions. In the forests around Cheznovice, charcoal and forest salt, also called Flus or potash, were produced in the past.

Leisure and Regional Places

The Svatý Štěpán leisure and training center is located in Cheznovice on the shore of the large Svatý Štěpán pond. It is available for school excursions.

The Zřícenina Valdek ruins, the U Svatého Petra church and the Svatý Martin church are located in the surroundings of Cheznovice. The Týřov ruins are located in the wider surrounding region.

History

Cheznovice is mentioned in a surviving Rožmberk land register from 1374. From 1336 to 1426, the village belonged to the Rožmberk estate, which was assigned to the nearby domain of Zbiroh Castle.

In the past, Cheznovice had 25 nail-forging workshops, known as Veřtaty, where 147 workers were employed. Iron ore was mined in the surroundings of Cheznovice until 1875; the final mining operations took place in Žlebec.
