Staré Ždánice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Staré Ždánice, the traditional Staročeské Máje festivities always take place on the last Saturday in May from 1 p.m. They include a procession of young men in folk costumes accompanied by live music, followed by the Staročeská beseda dance beneath the main maypole. Since 2010, the Staročeské Máje festivities have been organized entirely by young people from Staré Ždánice.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Wenceslas in Staré Ždánice is an early Gothic church built in 1339 on the site of an earlier Romanesque wooden church. It has a single-nave layout, a square presbytery with a cross-ribbed vault, and a massive prismatic tower on its north side with battlements and a stone pyramidal roof.

Zámeček Staré Ždánice was remodeled into a romanticized château by Baron Nathaniel Filip de Aras. It is open to the public during regular cultural events and guided tours.

The former municipal office, which Žilka had built in the 1930s, now houses a small museum dedicated to Žilka’s life and legacy. It displays historical photographs, documents such as a marriage certificate and a military ID, as well as other artifacts from his life.

Water Management and the Villagescape

The Opatovický Canal runs through Staré Ždánice and is the surviving evidence there of the former Pernštejn fish-pond system. It is an important early Renaissance technical structure, connects the Elbe between Opatovice and Semín, and was built by the Pernštejn family between 1498 and 1514 to power mills, hammer mills, and fulling mills. The vaulted bridge over the Opatovický Canal is a historic structure in Staré Ždánice.

Cycle Paths

Cycle Route 4040 connects Čeperka, Staré Ždánice, and Lázně Bohdaneč. KČT Cycle Route 4200 begins in Staré Ždánice at Cycle Route 4040 and leaves the village on an asphalt road toward Osice.
