Helvíkovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Helvíkovice extends along both banks of the Divoká Orlice River. Road I/11 runs through the centre, lined with a lime-tree avenue on both sides.

Culture and History

The chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua was completed in 1894 and is also used for various cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions.

Helvíkovice’s Baroque heritage includes a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1717. On the outskirts of the village, the English nobleman John Parish had a small Empire-style hunting lodge built in a pheasantry at the beginning of the 19th century; the former hunting lodge now serves as a forester’s lodge.

Prokop Diviš, the inventor of the grounded lightning conductor, was born on 26 March 1696 in Helvíkovice near Žamberk. A memorial pillar stands in the immediate vicinity of his birthplace in Helvíkovice. The birthplace has been converted into a memorial room that is open to the public. From Žamberk, it can be reached by car, bus, bicycle or on foot.

Cycling and Walks

The green cycle route No. 4073 leads from Betlém via Helvíkovice to the ascent to Poplužní dvůr. The “From Ústí nad Orlicí via four castles” cycle route also passes through Helvíkovice. The surroundings of Helvíkovice are suitable for walks.
