Svobodné Heřmanice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The first surviving written mention of Svobodné Heřmanice appears in a document issued by Pope Innocent IV in Lyon in 1250. From this early written record, the history of the village leads to its ecclesiastical architecture and a memorial in the village.

History and Villagescape

The foundation of Svobodné Heřmanice is closely connected with the colonising activities of the Cistercian order. The village is home to the parish church of the Most Holy Trinity. It is a Neoclassical church built in 1786 on the site of a wooden church constructed around 1560 and demolished in 1785. Svobodné Heřmanice also has a memorial to the victims of the First World War.

Water and Landscape

The Heřmanický stream flows from north to south through the centre of Svobodné Heřmanice and divides the municipality into two parts.

Mount Ovčák, Mount Kozinec and Mount Vinice are located in the surroundings of Svobodné Heřmanice. In the wider regional area are the ruins of Cvilin and Vildštejn, as well as Mount Rudná.

Railway and Cycling Routes

The Hvozdnický expres is a popular tourist train that operates from May to the end of September on the railway line between Opava východ and Svobodné Heřmanice stations. Two designated cycling routes lead into the village: Cycle Route 6164 runs via Staré Heřminovy to Svobodné Heřmanice, while Cycle Route 6159 runs via Bratříkovice to a crossroads in Svobodné Heřmanice.

Flooded Šífr Slate Quarry

The flooded Šífr slate quarry is located about 500 metres from Svobodné Heřmanice railway station and can be reached on foot.
