Košařiska: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Košařiska is a typical foothill settlement with dispersed development. Its scenic setting is defined by the highlands of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the distinctive Ostrý.

Nature and Settlement Character

The Čerňavina Nature Reserve comprises natural Carpathian-type beech stands interspersed with spruce, sycamore and fir in the highlands of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. It is located on the summit and steep slopes of Ostrý (1,044.4 m above sea level) on the Ropická Ridge.

Mount Kozubová is located in the immediate vicinity of Košařiska. The surrounding area also includes the mountains of Smrčina, Javorový and Polka.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Turistická chata na Ostrém has stood at its location in Košařiska since 1935 and was built on a former cattle salaš on the southern slope of Mount Ostrý in the “Na Ostrým” district. Several typical Beskids wooden houses have been preserved in Košařiska. The Kończyce Małe Castle - Zamek XV w. is located in the wider regional surroundings of Košařiska.

Educational Trail and Traditions

The “Po stopách salašnictví v Košařiskách” educational trail was created in 2012 for tourists and residents. A re-enactment of the “Miyszani łowiec” custom takes place every year in May in Košařiska. The May event “Miyszani łowiec” includes a craft market, performances by folk bands, as well as food and drinks.

In September, Košařiska observes the traditional “Rozsod” custom, during which sheep and other livestock were driven from the mountain sheep farms to the village and allocated back to their owners.

Pastoral Farming

As part of historical pastoral farming, bryndza was made from particularly high-fat milk at the end of summer and sold in the cities.
