Veselá: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Veselá is located in the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The Veselka stream flows through the village: it rises in Černá rokle below Skuhrov and flows into the Libuňka near Ktová.

History and Settlements

Veselá was first mentioned in 1616 in the memorial book of the town of Rovensko and historically belonged to the Hruboskalské estate. Bítouchov was founded in 1872 with eight cottages and has belonged to the municipality of Veselá since 1881. Vranovsko was originally called Drašnov and received its present name after the cottager Vrána, who ran a business there.

Further information concerns the settlements of Žďár and Kotelsko: Žďár was established in the 17th century and comprised three agricultural holdings in 1713. Kotelsko was established in 1693 after the Kotelský estate was dissolved and fourteen cottages were built there. A presumed fortress is believed to have stood at the now-unidentifiable location known as “Na hrádku” in the Kotelsko archaeological site.

Culture and Local History

The settlement of Kotelisko, which belongs to the municipality of Veselá, is home to a Baroque Calvary depiction dating from 1776. The Masaryk School in Veselá was built in 1938–1939 in the Functionalist style. During the Protectorate, the headteacher Karel Hlaváček hid Vladimír Krajina, the leader of the ÚVOD resistance group, there.

Traditions and Getting There

The women of Veselá traditionally organize a Masopust carnival procession. They also organize the “Babí hop” masked ball.

The “Veselá, na návsi” bus stop is served by routes 542, 550, and 553.
