Reichenau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Reichenau combines sacred architecture, a local painting tradition and distinctive landscape features. The town preserves traces of a dynamic cultural and regional history.
Culture and History
The Baroque St. Wenceslas Church was built between 1704 and 1712. Its furnishings include an altarpiece of Saint Wenceslas by J. Hellich and a wooden baptismal font dating from the mid-18th century. The Plague Column of Saint Procopius was erected in 1702 at the place where the last three victims of the plague died.
A distinctive handicraft tradition is associated with the Rychnover lacquered boxes made of hard paper: their decoration with romantic miniatures led to the Rychnover School of Painting. After the decline of box production, the Rychnover School of Painting devoted itself to the industrial production of copies of famous paintings for ecclesiastical and secular purposes.
Rychnov u Jablonce nad Nisou is also home to the open-air exhibition “AL Reichenau Concentration Camp & Getewent Arms Factory”, which is open to visitors. Historically, Rychnov railway station on the Pardubice–Liberec line connected the entire Jablonec area with the outside world.
There are also sacred destinations in the immediate and wider surroundings: Valdštejn, a church, is located near Rychnov u Jablonce nad Nisou. In the wider regional area is Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice, also a church.
