Rakousy: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Rakousy lies in the valley of the Jizera between Turnov and Malá Skála. The villagescape also includes eight timbered chalets of the Turnov type.

Nature

The Bučiny u Rakous Nature Reserve protects a near-natural forest community consisting predominantly of beech trees aged between 80 and 115 years, growing on marl sandstone. Bučiny u Rakous is also an ecologically significant biocentre of regional importance, situated along a supraregional biocorridor in the Jizera valley.

Paths and water on the Jizera

Hiking and cycling routes run through Rakousy. These include the Greenway Jizera and the Průlom Jizery educational trail, which follows the course of the Jizera from Malá Skála to Turnov.

The municipality of Rakousy recommends that water sports enthusiasts travel down the Jizera from Malá Skála to Zrcadlová koza.

History and culture

The first official mention of Rakousy dates back to 1540. The Jizeran Theatre Association was founded in 1924 and re-established in 1998; it contributes to cultural life in Rakousy.

The theatre association takes part in various shows with theatrical performances and also organises, among other things, balls, children's carnivals, children's days, Shrovetide processions, Easter traditions, Christmas carol singing at the nativity scene and excursions.

The iron cross site in Rakousy is located on the left side of the dead-end road from Turnov to Rakousy (Zátoň), near the municipal office. The iron cross probably dates from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Zbirohy castle ruins are located in the immediate vicinity of Rakousy. They are freely accessible in the vicinity of Rakousy; the original complex retains cellars, a water cistern and, above all, a palace wall up to 10 metres high.
