Klokočí near Turnov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 70-metre-long rock steps of the Klokočské průchody provide access from the village of Klokočí to the Klokočské skály area. Here you will find distinctive rock formations, medieval traces and a castle ruin.

Nature and Geology

The Klokočské skály Nature Reserve is an exceptionally large, continuous rock complex of Cretaceous origin and includes the remains of a relic pine forest. The weathering of less resistant parts of the rock and other geomorphological processes created caves, rock gates, tunnels, rock mushrooms and rock towers in the Klokočské skály.

The Klokočské skály are one of fourteen unique sandstone areas in the Český ráj Geopark, which are also known as rock cities because of their appearance.

Paths and Caves

A red-marked hiking trail leads from Klokočí through the Klokočské průchody to a trail junction. A trade route already passed through these rock passages in the Middle Ages. From Klokočí, the Rotštejn castle ruin is an access point to the Klokočské skály.

The Postojna–Amerika Cave is located in Zelený důl and is the only accessible cave in the Klokočské skály. It is closed in winter because bats are breeding there.

Culture and History

The romantic Rotštejn castle ruin lies at the far edge of the Klokočské skály Nature Reserve. Rotštejn Castle was founded around 1250.

The Boží muka in Klokočí are a monument to folk stone art from the mid-18th century and a preserved example of peasant patronage. Václav Vlček, a farmer from Klokočí, is named as the commissioner in 1847.
