Theusing: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Theusing offers a tangible combination of architectural history, pilgrimage, nature and regional production. The focus is on Toužim and the surrounding area, with its churches, historic routes and scenic landmarks.
Culture and History
The castle complex of Toužim documents the town’s architectural development and its early urban history. It comprises the Upper and Lower Castles, the manor brewery and part of the west wing of the farmyard. The Upper Castle preserves a Romanesque-Gothic core that originated from the provost’s residence and became the donjon of a noble castle after 1437.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary also combines several historical periods. It was built at the end of the 15th century as part of Toužim’s fortifications and preserves a Gothic north tower as well as a Baroque side chapel of the Suffering Christ dating from 1699. Inside are wall paintings by J. J. Kramolín from 1778. The Marian Column is one of Toužim’s notable architectural monuments.
Routes and Pilgrimage
The Saint Blaise educational trail is approximately 3 km long and runs partly along a maintained farm track, across meadows and, in its final third, along a paved road. Its stations explain natural features, historical connections, population movements, traditional crafts and cultural monuments. The educational trail runs around the Blažejský Pond near Nežichov and is located in an area belonging to the Natura 2000 network.
The Skokovská Trail connects Toužim with Skoky. In the Toužim area near Lachovice, a pilgrimage chapel stands along a historic pilgrimage route that was regularly used by processions from Toužim, Útvina and Otročín to the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Skoky.
Landscape and Production
An information board in the village square of Prachomety informs visitors about the Střela River and the history of the village. The source of the Střela River is marked in Prachomety near Toužim and, if it is located on private property, may be visited with the owners’ permission.
Regional production includes Biofarma Belina. At its farm dairy, it produces fresh cheese and cream cheese, quark, yogurts, spreads, Žervé and milk.
