Okrouhlá lies 12 km east of Cheb on the left bank of the Jesenická Reservoir. The village extends along the slopes around the Jesenický stream, which flows into the Jesenická Reservoir.

History

The first written references to Okrouhlá date back to 1299, when the estate belonged to the Paulsdorfer family. Okrouhlá Fortress is not open to the public.

Nature

At the edge of the former castle park stands the memorial oak known as the “Valdštejn Oak”. It was ceremonially named in 1910 in honour of Albrecht von Wallenstein, has a trunk circumference of 674 cm, and is considered one of the most powerful oaks in the Cheb area.

The forests around Okrouhlá are considered to offer abundant opportunities for mushroom picking.

Culture

In the centre of Okrouhlá, beneath the memorial oak “Valdštejnův dub”, stands the wooden sculpture “Ležícího Valdštejna”. Easter, autumn and Christmas craft workshops are held regularly in Okrouhlá.

Activities

A local cycle route marked “397 2129” runs via Úbočí, Milíkov, Okrouhlá, Lipová and Mýtina and is designated as CZ/D 22.

Outdoor exercise equipment for children, young people and adults has been installed in the park next to the adjoining pergola in Okrouhlá.

Water and surroundings

There is a campsite with camping facilities in the municipality of Okrouhlá. The municipality also has a campsite with swimming facilities and safe access to the water.

The Baldi car camp is located near Okrouhlá on the shore of the Jesenická Reservoir; the Jesenická Reservoir is a non-trout fishing area managed by the Czech Anglers’ Union.
