St Andrew's Church stands in Luby. It is a Late Romanesque building and one of the oldest ecclesiastical monuments in West Bohemia. Its Romanesque tower is the church's only surviving Romanesque structural element.

Culture and History

The Chapel of Our Lady was built in 1716 in Luby's municipal cemetery and extensively reconstructed in 1993. It is listed in the central Czech register of immovable cultural monuments.

The Marian Column of Luby is a stone column dating from 1699, featuring a distinctive double-sided Madonna and Child. The Statue of the Violin Maker was created in 1926 and unveiled in 1927 in recognition of the local violin makers and instrument manufacturers.

Landscape and Nature

Most of Luby lies in the Lubská vrchovina highlands. Their highest elevation reaches 675 m above sea level in the northern border area of the town's territory. In Horní Luby, the approximately 700 m-long Zámecká Alley of ash, maple and oak trees runs along an old path; its trees were declared memorial trees in 2002. In addition, four closely grouped, heavily branched beeches are protected on the golf course.

The Vysoký kámen quartzite rock formation lies in the vicinity of Luby, outside the cadastral area. It is easily accessible from Luby and offers panoramic views over Czech and German territory. From the Pod Vodárnou turn-off, mountain bikers and cyclocross riders can follow a forest path to the natural monument; the rock is 3.5 km from the turn-off and offers a view of Luby.

Activities

The Lubsko educational trail begins at náměstí 5. května, includes 17 stops and can also be travelled by bicycle.

Local Cycle Route 2132 begins at the Luby–Wernitzgrün tourist border crossing. It is 5 km long, with detours extending it to up to 11 km, moderately difficult and suitable for touring bicycles.

Local Cycle Route 2180 begins at Luby railway station, the terminus of railway line 146 Cheb–Luby. It is an 18 km-long, difficult mountain biking route from Luby towards Opatov and Libocký Důl.

The Cheb–Luby section of National Cycle Route 23 is 36 km long, moderately difficult and suitable for touring bicycles.
