Kaceřov lies at the point where the Ore Mountains, the Eger Basin, and the Sokolov Basin meet. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1312. This gives it a clearly defined geographical setting and a history in which historic roads and Baroque buildings have left distinctive traces.

Geographical Setting

The location at the transition between three landscape regions shapes the geographical classification of Kaceřov. The Lobezský vrch mountain is located nearby. The hill (U Rozcestí) [Milhostov-Vackovec] is in the immediate vicinity. The mountains Chrudim and Lysina are also located in the wider regional area.

History

The written history begins with the mention of Kaceřov in 1312. In the mid-18th century, a road was built between Prague and Erfurt that ran through Kaceřov. The village was thus integrated into a historic route between the two cities.

Culture and Architecture

Kaceřov Chateau is considered the municipality’s most significant monument. The chateau grounds are a remarkable example of a small rural Baroque feudal residence; they include a farmyard, a park, and a chateau pond. The remains of a round fortification are located on the slope above the chateau pond. This structure had a diameter of 18 metres.

Smaller monuments also shape the appearance of the village. On the road from Kaceřov to Chlum sv. Máří, a partially preserved Marian cross or Marian column stands at the cadastral boundary. Next to house no. 28 on the western edge of the built-up area of Kaceřov stands a well-preserved statue of Saint Anthony of Padua; the year 1719 is inscribed on the front of its pedestal.

The late Baroque column of the Holy Trinity bears an inscription with the year 1770. Kaceřov is also home to the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. A small Chapel of Saint Anne stands near Kaceřov Chateau. It was created in the 1890s from an older building dating from around 1820 that had been used by the chateau gardener. The chapel is a rectangular building above the Libocký potok, with an apsidal end in the Neo-Gothic style.

The Church of Saint Michael is located in Bad Brambach, in the wider regional area surrounding Kaceřov.
