Lhota Pod Libčany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Lhota pod Libčany combines a precisely documented local history with a lively cultural calendar, a family-run sea buckthorn business and visible traces of the history of the landscape. The village therefore offers a variety of facets: from its founding as a logging settlement and historic craft details to events, regional products and the preserved pond system.
History and Culture
Lhota pod Libčany was founded around 1375 by Opatovický klášter as a logging settlement. In 1580, Jiří Škornice Balbín had the layout of a new village surveyed in an east-west direction, measuring 800 × 80 metres. Another biographical link leads to the Czech puppeteer Matěj Kopecký, who was born on 24 February 1775 in an inn with a post station in Lhota pod Libčany.
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1900 and is also used for various cultural events, such as concerts. The local craft history also includes a Ruchadlo: in 1827, the blacksmith Václav Novotný made it in Lhota pod Libčany together with his brother-in-law, the blacksmith Veverka from Rybitví. This device was first used for ploughing behind the forge at house no. 4.
Events
Every summer, an exhibition of small animals takes place in Lhota pod Libčany. At this summer exhibition, visitors can see dozens of animals on display that have been assessed and awarded prizes. The Dětský den is another popular cultural event held annually by the municipality.
The municipality’s cultural programme also includes the family event “Přivítejme podzim aneb rodinná drakiáda”. Another event is a witch-burning celebration at the Hubenice pond with an accompanying programme.
