Žacléř combines cultural history, mining and landscapes to create a multifaceted townscape.

Culture and History

The Městské muzeum Žacléř has five permanent exhibitions on regional history, important personalities, hard-coal mining with a history spanning more than 400 years, the lives of local residents and porcelain production at the porcelain factory founded by the Pohl brothers in 1878.

A special focus is the porcelain collection of Václav Petira at the Městské muzeum Žacléř. It comprises 800 exhibited objects and documents porcelain production at the Pohl brothers' factory.

The Hornický skanzen Žacléř is the last surviving monument to underground hard-coal mining in eastern Bohemia. In the vicinity of Žacléř, a guided tour of the Dělostřelecká tvrz Stachelberg also leads through more than one kilometre of unfinished tunnels and halls to a depth of 50 metres below the surface.

Trails and Landscapes

The 16-kilometre Žacléřská naučná trasa trail leads through the history of Žacléř and its districts. At Růžový palouček in Černá voda, it also commemorates J. A. Komenský. A free map of the Žacléřská naučná trasa is available at the IC Žacléř.

The headframe of the Jan shaft at the Hornický skanzen Žacléř offers views of the panorama of the Giant Mountains and Královecký Špičák.

In the vicinity of Žacléř, the Eliška lookout tower is open free of charge during the day from 1 April to 30 November; in winter, it is open in favourable weather conditions. From there, the view extends over Žacléř, across Libavské sedlo to Poland and over the expansive Vraní Mountains.

Dvorský les is located in the vicinity of Žacléř as part of the Rýchor ridge; the beech virgin forest stretches at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres.

More Experiences

At the Hornický skanzen Žacléř, the Štola Jitřenka leads about seven metres below the surface. There, visitors can see and touch two coal seams and learn about the combination of a steel “hajcmanová” and wooden timbering.

From spring to autumn, mountain bikes, trekking bikes and road bikes are designated as suitable bicycle types in Žacléř.

In August, the operation of the tourist rail bikes in Žacléř was also extended to Fridays. The ride on the actual railway line from Žacléř towards Lampertice offers children and adults an unusual railway experience as well as views of the Giant Mountains.
