Prŭhonice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Průhonice is defined by the interplay of castle history, sacred art, and a landscape along the Botič shaped by trees, ponds, and viewpoints.

Culture and history

The present-day Průhonický zámek was created through repeated alterations to an originally medieval Gothic castle complex. The oldest monument in the Průhonice castle grounds is the Romanesque church Narození Panny Marie. It was consecrated in 1187; in 1890, Gothic linear frescoes from the first half of the 14th century were discovered on its walls.

Průhonický zámek is not open to the public; the exhibitions and visitor centre are exceptions. In the ground-floor rooms of the castle, the exhibition “Průhonický zámek a park, dílo přírody a lidského ducha” presents the history of the castle and park and includes a memorial room for Count Arnošt Emanuel Silva-Tarouca.

Landscape

Průhonice Park was laid out in the Botič valley using a combination of native and introduced exotic tree species. The Dendrologická zahrada Průhonice covers 72.8 hectares and includes almost 10,000 plant taxa.

The Dendrologická zahrada Průhonice was opened to the public in 1991. Seasonal thematic plant exhibitions take place there.

Ponds and viewpoints

The Kaskáda sedmi Holských rybníků is a chain of seven ponds created at the beginning of the 18th century. The Gloriet lookout tower stands on a rocky promontory formed by a meander of the Botič. It was reconstructed in 2010, restoring its function as a viewpoint.

The Hlavní vyhlídka runs from centuries-old oaks with rhododendron undergrowth across meadows in the Botič valley and past both main ponds to the viewing terrace in the castle courtyard.
