Pozdeň: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Pozdeň’s local history begins at the Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist: Jaroslav Plichta of Žerotín had it built in 1289. Between 1847 and 1858, Václav Štraybl from Vrané rebuilt it in the Baroque style, giving it its present-day appearance. The marble main altar was donated to the church in 1879 by Canon Jan Bernard.

Culture and history

Near the village centre stands a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1746; it was restored in 1996. Next to the bus stop by the municipal office, the war memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War from 1914 to 1918, as well as the victims of the German occupation from 1939 to 1945. Between 2022 and 2024, the memorial was repaired and enclosed with a new fence.

Traditions and events

Every May, the local youth organise the Staročeské máje in Pozdeň. The event includes a procession of young people in traditional costumes accompanied by musicians, as well as a civic procession attended by visitors from surrounding villages and towns. The local SK Slavoj Pozdeň also organises the Šibřinky on the second Saturday of every March.

Pozdeňské pádlo is a canoeing tournament on the stream that flows through Pozdeň’s village centre. The course described for the event ran from the crossroads below the church to a weir and then back upstream.

Nature

Pozdeň is one of the municipalities marking the boundary of the Džbán Nature Park. The nature park was designated in 1994 because of its exceptional and well-preserved landscape character. In addition, official cycling route 12–Peruc covers 45 kilometres: it starts and ends in Pozdeň and runs along roads and forest paths.

Bus route 588 provides transport connections in the region, linking Slaný, Srbeč and Milý and serving Pozdeň on weekdays.
