In Kamenné Žehrovice, nature observation and local history are closely intertwined. The Záplavy Nature Reserve includes areas within the cadastral territory of Kamenné Žehrovice. Kalspot, a protected wetland where several rare amphibians occur, including fire-bellied toads, water frogs, common frogs and green toads, is also located in the floodplain of the Kačák stream.

Nature

Záplavy is an important breeding area and a significant resting place for waterbirds and wetland birds during migration. During the spring and autumn migrations, kingfishers, great egrets and hoopoes can be observed there.

Trails

The Mrákavy educational trail is just over one kilometre long, easy to walk and provides information about the various tree species of the local landscape at eight stops. The Povodí středního Kačáku – Drvotova stezka educational trail runs mainly along well-maintained paths, partly along forest trails, and is marked with the usual green-and-white markings for educational trails.

Culture and local character

On the road towards Žilina stands a 17th-century farmstead protected by the state. On the village square in Kamenné Žehrovice is the Chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary, a distinctive building that is suitable for a short stop. It is also a popular venue for civil and church weddings.

The Dělnický dům was a centre of social life in Kamenné Žehrovice during the period between the two world wars. Today, the reconstructed building houses a modern gymnasium and a multi-purpose outdoor court. The local Žehrovák sandstone was allegedly used in the construction of Charles Bridge, St. Vitus Cathedral and the National Theatre.
