Málkov lies in the Český kras landscape below Lejškov Hill. Several educational trails in the surrounding area lead to distinctive natural and cultural sites, including the 5.2 km Koukolova hora–Kotýz–Koněprusy footpath, which has a moderate difficulty level.
Hiking
On the nearby Kotýz section of the educational trail, visitors can admire the Axamitova brána and Jelínkův most rock arches. A chapel ruin dating from 1832 stands on the summit of nearby Koukolova hora; from there, views extend over Králův Dvůr, the ponds of Popovice, part of Beroun and Děd Mountain. A hillfort once stood on the nearby Kotýz Plateau.
Nature
The nearby Zlatý kůň educational trail runs mostly through the Zlatý kůň National Nature Monument and the Kobyla Nature Reserve. It features 14 information panels and four interactive elements. The Zlatý kůň National Nature Monument protects the Koněpruské Caves and other karst formations containing fossil remains of animals and humans from the Early Pleistocene, as well as archaeological and historical finds.
The landscape around Málkov includes gently rolling meadows where horses graze. Several small limestone quarries were formerly operated on the slopes of Lejškov. Open former quarries on Lejškov provide habitats for heat-loving plant and animal species, while an abandoned adit there serves as a refuge for a colony of bats. The slopes of Lejškov also feature steppe vegetation.
History and Village Character
Historical sources first mention Málkov in 1548. Several old farmsteads contribute to Málkov’s historic character. A sycamore maple (Javor mléč) stands by house no. 7 in the village centre. Málkov Chapel has a small belfry on its roof with a small bell.
