History and Culture
During the reign of Charles IV, Karlík Castle was an important part of the defensive system protecting Karlštejn. Based on the surviving traces of ramparts and sections of walls, it was more likely a small castle; only remnants of the ramparts and masonry have survived. The castle also protected a historic route from Prague via Vonoklasy and Mořina to Karlštejn.
Another historical monument is the Romanesque Rotunda of Saint Martin in Karlík, which is considered the first Christian church in the village. It was probably founded during the reign of Přemysl Otakar I, toward the end of the 12th century. The church in Karlík was substantially extended in the Baroque style in 1767. In 1834, it was renovated again, both externally and internally, before being completely rebuilt in 1889.
Nature and Landscape
The Karlické Valley Nature Reserve comprises wooded slopes on the left bank of the Karlický Stream, as well as a smaller section on its right bank; it stretches between Roblín and Karlík. The nature reserve is important for the protection of biodiversity.
Doutnáč Mountain lies near Karlík. The nearby area includes the hill of Bukovka [Karlík] and Skalice Hill [Mořinka]. Hradec Mountain lies in the wider regional surroundings of Karlík.
Trails and Hikes
The hike “With Empress Eliška from Karlštejn to Karlík” is a 15 km route of moderate difficulty. It begins at Zadní Třebaň railway stop. In Karlík, you can leave the red-marked route and continue along the blue-marked trail to Dobřichovice railway station.
