Horní Počaply: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Horní Počaply lies on the border between the Central Bohemian Region and the Ústí nad Labem Region, on the left bank of the lower Elbe. A particularly prominent landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which stands on a hill above Horní Počaply and is surrounded by a cemetery.

Townscape and history

The single-nave church has a prismatic tower and a rectangular chancel. It originated as a Gothic church dating from the 14th century and was restored in 1869–1871. The protected ensemble includes a mortuary, the enclosing wall with gates, the gravestones of J. Macháček and A. Březina, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. In the history of Počaply, the municipality describes the church as a memorial to the era of the Carthusian monastery Zahrada Panny Marie in Prague’s Újezd district.

Activities

A cycle path without inclines runs along the Elbe. It is also suitable for beginner cyclists travelling with their parents. Horní Počaply railway station is approximately 300 metres from the “Sportovní areál Horní Počaply” sports complex.

The sports complex offers a football pitch, a multi-purpose court, a hockeyball court, and facilities for volleyball, badminton, speed badminton and Ogo. It also has two tennis courts, a table tennis hall, a gymnasium, a skate park and children’s playgrounds. Regardless of age or sporting ability, it is intended for the general public.

Water

In the Labe 13 fishing area, fishing from watercraft is permitted. A local or association fishing permit is required for this.

Tradition

The traditional “Pálení čarodějnic” festival in Horní Počaply is organised by the municipality’s firefighters.
