Dobrovíz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dobrovíz lies northwest of Prague in an old settlement area and in a gently rolling landscape that was originally shaped exclusively by agriculture.

History

The Dobrovíz village heritage reserve was designated in 1995. It is an ensemble of folk architecture whose façades and alterations date predominantly from the 19th century, while the cores of some buildings date back to the 17th century. The protected ensemble of buildings is concentrated mainly around the village square and includes eleven listed cultural monuments.

Dobrovíz is also home to surviving niche chapels. They are among the preserved components of historic pilgrimage routes leading radially from Prague into the surrounding area.

Culture

The protected Chapel of the Virgin Mary is listed as a protected structure in the Dobrovíz village heritage reserve. It is a late Baroque chapel from the 18th century. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is freestanding and rectangular in design, with a semicircular end and a square tower on the façade.

Another surviving relic is Žákův mlýn, an important remnant of the historic mill system on the Zákolanský stream in the stream’s floodplain. The mill buildings that stand today date from the mid-18th century.

Landscape

Its location in a gently rolling landscape and the surviving evidence of the old settlement and cultural landscape give Dobrovíz a distinct local character.
