Donje Biljane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

At Begovača there are an early Christian church, a Romanesque church and the remains of a rustic villa. Preserved examples of traditional rural folk architecture are also part of the cultural heritage of Donje Biljane. Begovača is listed in the cultural and historical heritage table of Ravni Kotari under Biljane Donje. The remains of a pre-Romanesque church near Begovača show that it was built in the second half of the 9th century.

The Crkvini archaeological site includes the remains of a Roman estate, the ruins of an early Croatian church from the 9th century, and 604 excavated early Croatian graves containing earrings and rings dating from the 9th to the 15th century. Based on its construction, the early Croatian church is described as an independent type of three-nave church architecture in Dalmatia.

In 1972 and 1973, rescue excavations were carried out at the Trljuge site at an early Croatian cemetery. A total of 27 graves were excavated, 17 of which displayed pagan and 10 Christian burial characteristics.
