Waters and Nature in the Municipality
There are two lakes in Detkovac, with different surface areas: Liman covers 18.50 hectares and Neteča 34.51 hectares. Neteča has a designated fishing trail and a designated fishing lodge. If you are interested in fishing, this lake is therefore a specific point of interest for planning your trip. Neteča is almost twice the size of Liman.
Several ponds are also among the municipality’s named natural sites. The pond near Budakovac covers 59.25 hectares; swans have been staying there for many years. Another pond is located near Novi Gradac and has an area of 9.27 hectares. When choosing your areas of interest, you can compare the waters in Detkovac with the ponds near Budakovac and Novi Gradac.
Church, Pilgrimage Sites, and Protected History
The Church of St. Elijah the Prophet (“sv. Ilije Proroka”) stands in Gradina. Its foundations were laid in 1775 by the parish priest Josip Nesek. The church was painted in 1904 and 1905, and its interior was repainted in 2004 and 2005. The church building is surrounded by a chestnut-lined avenue planted in 1883, which is now protected. The rectory in Gradina also has a long history: it was built in 1783.
A Way of the Cross with stations connects the site of the apparition of Gospa Gradinska with the church. At the apparition site there is a cross and a place of prayer with a shaded pergola. People pray and recite the rosary there, sing Marian songs, light candles, and lay flowers. These places give your trip a spiritual focus; the specified stations and forms of prayer provide a concrete point of reference.
Another historical point of interest is in Brezovica: the “Žikov brijeg” archaeological zone is protected as an immovable, individual archaeological zone on land under registration number Z-6452. Thus, the municipality offers both sacred history in Gradina and a protected archaeological site in Brezovica for different cultural interests.
Local Tradition and Getting Around
Gradinska fišijada is part of the local food culture. The announcement for the fourth event describes it as taking place at the “Sokol” hunting lodge in Gradina. It mentions a competition to prepare fiš paprikaš, as well as the chance to sample fried fish and fiš. According to the announcement, the event is held every year.
The county road Bušetina–Lukač–Gradina–Suhopolje–Čađavica is also relevant for getting around the municipality: the municipal area lies directly along this road. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which places and themes are most important for your trip—for example, the lakes in Detkovac, the sacred sites in Gradina, or the archaeological zone in Brezovica. The place names can help you keep these interests in mind when choosing a location.
In Detkovac, you can locate the waters of Liman and Neteča: Detkovac. Other destinations in the same selection are Suhopolje, Lukač Municipality, Čačinci Municipality, Virovitica Municipality, Špišić Bukovica Municipality, Voćin Municipality and Pitomača Municipality.
